Perched on a hillside in the shade of olive and plane trees, the strikingly picturesque village of Kardiani lies to the northwest of the island’s main town, Chora. Narrow, stone-paved alleys wind past whitewashed houses with inviting courtyards and balconies ablaze with brightly coloured flowers. Celebrated for its springs, fountains, traditional architecture and breathtaking sunset views, Kardiani offers an idyllic escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. But guests are not completely cut off, as there are two tavernas in the village, even a cocktail bar that is easily reached by car or a 15-minute walk up an old path. The nearest beaches can be accessed by car and on foot (+\- 30 mins.) along old pathways. Kardiani is also a perfect base for walking and hiking, with well-marked trails of varying lengths and difficulty crisscrossing the entire island.
Like most of the houses in Kardiani, the residence is built with stone and marble quarried on the island. Standing just off the pedestrian street, (5 mins walk from Kardiani village parking) the striking property has been lovingly renovated throughout in a way that preserves and highlights the traditional materials and construction. At the same time, however, it also embraces sustainability (with features such as solar power and a grey water toilet system), along with cutting-edge design for comfort and relaxation. The elevated position provides coolness in summer, but for the hottest days there are concealed AC units. With 130 m2 of interior space, the house can accommodate up to five guests. In addition to two private double bedrooms, each with ensuite bathroom, the downstairs lounge area can be transformed into sleeping quarters with a single sofa-bed chair that is suitable for a child. For added convenience there is a third communal bathroom. In the spacious, fully equipped kitchen, guests can prepare their own meals which can be enjoyed in the indoor dining area or outside on either of two balconies with amazing views, one of which is shaded by a pergola. The flat roof is not only the perfect spot for sunbathing, but also provides a stunning panoramic view of the surrounding countryside, parts of the village, and the sparkling blue sea.
